Avalanche warning for region Indre Fjordane Thursday 16.05.2019

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

The stability decreases when the snow gets wet. If we get a cold night the snow surface will freeze and stabilize. The danger level is 1 where the surface is hard, but will rise to 2-moderate as soon as the surface gets wet and soft.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Sist helg kom det snø som la seg ned til 600 moh, men det er lite gammal snø i terrenget frå før, og ein må over 800 moh for å finne skiføre. I fjellet har det stadvis kome mykje nysnø i løpet av mai, men snødekket er stort sett fuktig etter fleire dagar med høge temperaturar. Det minst snø og vanskelegat å finne skiføre vest i regionen.

På Strynefjellet er det observert rim som nokre få stader ligg under tynn fokksnø.

På Kvitenova (1400 moh) på Strynefjellet har temperaturen auka til +2 °C onsdag.

Avalanche risk assessment

Plussgrader til fjelltopphøgde fører til at det er våte laussnøskred som er skredproblemet. Om det våte snødekket vert ustabilt kjem an på om sola tek og om snøen er smelteomdanna frå før. Problema er venta å vere størst høgt til fjells der snøen vert våt for første gong. Der snøen allereie er omdanna er faregraden lågare. Eventuell nattefrost er stabiliserande.
